Cutting Room Assistant Needed

Atom Packs was started in 2018, by a tall man with a dream – a dream to hike in comfort with lightweight reliable kit that fit him properly. Our gear is now used by hikers tackling some of the world’s toughest and longest trails, as well as weekend warriors seeking escape into their local countryside and beyond.

Atom Packs Limited, one of the fastest growing cottage backpack brands in Europe, are looking to expand our team. Who we’re looking for:

  • Someone practical, proactive, and comfortable working with their hands

  • A good eye for detail and accuracy

  • Organised, tidy, and able to work independently when needed

  • A team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Experience in a workshop or production environment is a bonus, but not essential – training will be provided

This is a hands-on role in a busy workshop where high-quality outdoor gear is brought to life – from raw materials to finished backpacks! Experience is great, but attitude is everything.  If you’re enthusiastic, willing to learn, and can bring a positive energy to the team, we’d love to hear from you!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting with loading material on and off the laser cutter

    • Assisting with operating the laser cutter (don’t worry, we’ll teach you the ropes)

  • Preparing and marking all component parts for backpack and accessory production– every adventure needs good gear!

  • Boxing up backpack components in preparation for the sew team

  • Helping to organise materials and maintain stock levels

  • Keeping the cutting room tidy, safe, and running smoothly

  • Following instructions from our Cutting Room Leader

  • Helping out with general workshop tasks and maintenance

  • Reprocessing waste material

    • Finding things to chop, tidy, trim or finish when it’s quiet – we love a self-starter!

  • Making a cracking cup of coffee (essential, obviously!!)

Key responsibilities: The Scissors and Chalk

  • Cutting all fabrics and components accurately and efficiently

  • Precisely mark up materials - ready for action

  • Assist with operating the laser cutting machine 

  • Support the preparation of components and packs for the sewing team

  • Contribute to keeping the cutting room clean and well-organised

  • Assisting with regular stock takes

  • Your skills are valued and we will pay you accordingly, with clear salary progression where improving skills are demonstrated. Full time positions start at £25k depending on experience.

  • There are two well behaved workshop dogs, available at most times for scritch-scratches and ear rumples.
