Fabrics

An obsession with materials

Over the years we have used a wide variety of different fabrics in our manufacture. Now, after making thousands of packs, we have decided to simplify our range to make decision making easier.

We are really excited to have recently partnered with Challenge Sailcloth and will be using their EcoPak range moving forwards! This fabric has been designed from the ground up to minimise or eliminate the environmental damage normally caused by standard manufacturing processes.

Challenge has done this by using 100% Repreve recycled Polyester for all woven components, saving over one pound of CO2 per yard when compared to virgin nylon or polyester pack fabric. The fabric has also been designed to use solvent free lamination and a C0 durable water repellent (DWR) finish which eliminates fluorocarbons and Volatile Organic Compounds from the mix as well! This is a really exciting new material and manages to be both lighter and more durable than our previous fabric offerings, which when combined with a lighter ecological footprint, made this seem like a no brainer!

EPX200

Ultra 200

Weight: 3.5oz/yd2 or 119g/m2

This is one of the most exciting backpack fabrics on the market today. Ultra is made of woven UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene), the generic name for unbranded Dyneema fibre. Ultra 200 has 3x the UHMWPE content of the equivalent weight of Dyneema Composite Fabric, has 3x the tear strength and 7x the abrasion resistance.

Colours:  Black

Ultra 400

Weight: 4.65oz/yd2 or 158g/m2

This fabric has the same construction as the Ultra 200 except with twice the UHMWPE content, making this a great choice for high abrasion usage. We use this on the back panels and bases of our range of Ultra packs.

Owing to the way this fabric is constructed, we tape the seams so Ultra 400 backpacks will be VERY water resistant.

210D Robic Extreema®

Weight: 5.31oz/yd2 or 180g/m2

One of the toughest, time tested fabrics on the market, 210D Robic Extreema® is used as standard on all of our side pockets, shoulder straps and hip belts.

Colours: Olive Green and Black

500D Nylon

Weight: 7oz/yd2 or 230g/m2

Used as standard on all back panels. Using this fabric here gives great strength to all critical seams on the sack. It is highly waterproof and much more comfortable against the body than a laminated fabric.

Colours: Black

X-Pac VX07

Weight: 4.8oz/yd2 or 162g/m2

Face fabric: 70 denier double ripstop nylon

X-Pac fabrics are made out of 4 layers permanently bonded together. A white 50D backing, a 0.25mm PET film, a polyester X grid and a ripstop nylon face.

Waterproof and strong enough to be used in almost all applications. VX07 will survive an open trail like the PCT no problem, although if you are regularly going off trail or expect to be bush-wacking or abrading the pack, consider upgrading to VX21. VX07 is a great option if low weight is important and you know how to look after your gear!

Colours: Black, White, Red and Navy Blue

X-Pac VX21

Weight: 6oz/yd2 or 203.4g/m2

Face fabric: 210 denier woven nylon

X-Pac fabrics are made out of 4 layers permanently bonded together. A white 50D backing, a 0.25mm PET film, a polyester X grid and a ripstop nylon face.

Hard wearing, waterproof and available across the range for a marginal weight gain and hugely increased strength, abrasion and tear resistance. This is the fabric to choose if you will be regularly bush-wacking or abrading your bag. Great for travel, climbing, general abuse. Quite stiff at first but softens with use.
