Across our range, we are actively working to eliminate all sources of PFCs (polyfluorocarbons)  and PFAs (polyfluoroalkyls).

Black ecopac waterproof fabric with water droplets

Historically in the outdoor industry a lot of these compounds came from the Durable Water Repellant (DWR) finishes that were applied to some outdoor fabrics: These are given a rating of C6 to C0, where C6 was the most “chemically” with C0 being the least “chemically”.

C6 used to be the industry standard for excellence, being very effective at repelling water, oils and dirt. It has recently become apparent that the fluorocarbon compounds that were common in C6 finishes are harmful to the environment, build up in the body, and do not break down over time.

These are the chemicals you may have heard described as “Forever chemicals”.  The outdoor industry is rightly moving away from use of these chemicals and Atom Packs is committed to being free of them, too.

We use several main fabrics in the production of our backpacks, we have been able to guarantee the make up of the following:

The Ecopac range (EP200, EP400) is entirely PFC and PFA free using non-toxic solvents, glues and a C0 DWR that is both PFC and PFA free.

Robic Extrema is designed specifically for us, using a C0 that is both PFC and PFA free.

Spacer Mesh Built for us using C0 DWR that is both PFC and PFA free.

Dyneema Stretch Built for us using C0 DWR that is both PFC and PFA free.
