As I crawl into my tent, parking all of my belongings right next to me, I think to myself:
Wow. Isn’t it kind of crazy that I’m carrying pretty much everything I need to live on my back? Not even on my bike?! Humans have been doing that forever.
It’s simple. It definitely doesn’t offer the luxury a hotel might try to lure you in with. No fluffy cotton towel. No hot water or breakfast buffet. Just me, a tent, some food, and a surprisingly acceptable amount of stuff stuffed into one backpack.

To know that I can walk towards whatever mountain I want. That I can keep going for as long as my food lasts. That I’ve crossed so many of these magnificent mountains on foot and can simply put down my little house wherever I fancy, as long as I can refill my water bottles in a stream.

There is something ridiculously fulfilling about knowing that everything I need is right there next to me.
