Description

The Pulse (Previously known as The Atom+)

Trails are changeable. If you go on a long thru hike then your gear, clothing, food and water requirements will all change as the trail goes on. The Pulse is the answer – an ultralight pack that can adapt with you to meet the conditions.

Built on the same body as the Atom, The Pulse gives you the same easy access to everything you need to keep hiking all day long using the five accessible pockets when worn. We increase the torso length a little to accommodate a removable hip belt, the back panel has a removable carbon hooped frame and foam sleeve inserted from the inside. When all of this is stripped from the pack, the bag is 160g lighter and ready for an even more ultralight adventure.

Removable Hipbelt
The hipbelt measures 3 inches wide. It is made with 10mm laminated foam and includes 20mm webbing and hardware. It can be adjusted by pulling in towards the middle and it is secured in the centre of the belt by 50mm hook and loop tape. The belt can be removed for a 90g weight reduction.

Padded back panel
Uses shaped 8mm closed cell foam. Can be removed when pack is empty for a 15g weight reduction.

Dual shoulder pockets
Super stretchy and big enough to hold most smartphones, a day’s worth of snacks or a 700ml water bottle. The elastic is fixed and, owing to its clever design, does not need a tensioner.

Bottom pocket
Easy-access bottom pocket with trash port made with Dyneema stretch fabric.

Large front pocket
Made with Dyneema stretch fabric. Can hold 5L, not included in the total volume.

Side pockets
Two 2.5L forward-facing, deep and low side pockets made with 210D Robic Extreema. Each one is big enough to keep 2 x 1L Smartwater bottles steady, yet low enough to reach whilst the pack is worn.

Front zig-zag elastic
Removable and designed to be able to store a folded Z-rest or assist with air drying your clothes.

Side elastic with Lineloc
These are there to secure a pole or tent stakes when stored in the side pocket. If you are wanting to compress the bag, we recommend switching to a non-stretch cord.

Sternum Strap
Elasticated and height adjustable.

Ice Axe loop
Sewn-in loop to easily connect an ice axe or walking poles.

Great pack but a bit expensive.

Great lightweight pack that enables me to get out and go further than my old one which was too heavy and uncomfortable for me. Can’t help feeling its a bit over priced though, but I guess if people keep buying them then Atom packs will keep selling them!

Go-To Adventure Pack

These packs are just awesome! Soo comfortable and well made, can’t rate them highly enough. For our month long family trip to Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu region in Nepal, I bought four Atom+ 50L packs (now called Pulse EP50) paired with four matching Roo bum bags (large). The staff at Atom Packs were very helpful as we blinged up each of the packs with different coloured shock cords so we knew which pack was whose. We each had plenty of space in our pack for base weight around 8 kg including all gear to 5600m and -20degC, camera gear and 2L of water with filtration gear. Definitely recommend getting a Roo bum bag in a large size instead of the Hipbelt Pocket. I also used the Roo as a bit of a day pack and could fit snacks, camera gear and valuables when we went on side trips, leaving the main pack in the teahouse. The Pulse EP50 & Roo packs were our only luggage which we could take onboard aircraft as hand luggage as we could get them to fit within the maximum size and weight allowances. I can’t wait to use this pack again.

A brilliant backpack

I ordered the custom 50L size. It's incredibly comfortable, exceptionally lightweight, and the construction and stitching quality are superb. Not only does it perform well, but it also looks great. It's evident that it was designed and crafted by individuals with a love for their work, a passion for what they do, and a wealth of trail-mileage experience.

First Impressions: Exactly What I've Been Looking For

This is a preliminary review as I have not been able to take the pack out yet, but after much research and deliberation I purchased the Atom Packs Atom+ EP50. I am thoroughly impressed at the design, craftsmanship, look, feel, and features of this pack. The shoulder straps are wide and fit my body perfectly. The hip-belt does a great job of dispersing weight off of the shoulders. The minimal frame and pad give just the right amount of structure and rigidity. The side pockets are perfect depth and size for one or two 1L water bottles. The shoulder strap pockets are the best design I have seen, reducing the need for a cinch cord at the top to keep stuff in while also maintaining a low-profile look. The EPX fabric is my new favorite I think. It is durable feeling and more rigid than nylon, but not crinkly and thin feeling like DCF or Ultra. One thing that really stands out is that the side pockets prevent water bottles from sagging below the bottom pocket entrance as was the case with several other packs I've owned/tried. This allows unobstructed access to the bottom pocket. One of my only initial critics is that the bottom pocket seems less secure than Pa'lante's design, I have concerns that stuff may fall out, but that is to be determined. The thoughtfulness in the design of the Atom+ really makes it a well received pack and I look forward to taking it out on the trail when family life permits. Thanks Atom Packs! :)

A Gem

I had been planning on purchasing a new lightweight rucksack to replace my Exped Lightening 60 litre after an abortive backpacking trip made me realised at the age of 65 I need to carry less. Replaced some of my heavy items such as stove and sleeping bag and began researching packs. Initially I was looking at US manufacturer but soon discovered Atom Pack and was sold on supporting a UK based cottage manufacturer especially after reading Chris Townsend's review and watching YouTube reviews. I was in Cumbria and arranged to visit the workshop and was met by Dexter who showed me the 40 and 50 litre rucksacks. This was very useful as I may have ordered the 40 litre which would have been too small for my current kit and as Dexter said the 50 litre can always be cinched down Bought the Atom+50 and the 2.5 litre Roo. Have done a number of day hikes with the rucksack loaded with sleeping bags and tents up to 7 kilos and it is very stable, very comfortable and after the Exped very light. The Roo is great for the usual every day items, phone, wallet, book. Great products.
