Hip pocket

Brought two of these to complement the padded hip belt. Simple, practical, water resistant (to an extent…but very easy to unclip and stash in the pack in heavy rain). Works well as additional storage and well priced. Performed admirably during a week in Lapland and numerous Bannau Brycheiniog excursions; now a permanent addition for my adventures. Thanks Atom Packs for sensible decent design!

Great pocket by a wonderful company

I’ve used hip-belt pockets for years on other acks so this was a default choice for me. Little awkward to attach but once on, it stays ‘independent’ of the belt so doesn’t bend with it, putting sideways pressure on the items, inside unlike a sewn-in pocket. Zip easy to pull. Overall really well made and a great addition to my bag.

Best accessory for the best pack ever?

What a great little addition to our packs.
Bought a pair for our Notch and Prospector. They are very well made and work great. They just do what they need to do - not too big and they open and close very easily with one hand, even when half filled. The zipper runs very well and they just work :)

Gets too wet

It’s good but it gets too wet and it can’t get covered, like the backpack, with the waterproof sleeve. It should be waterproof as it is an add-on

Thanks so much for your feedback, AMC—we really appreciate it and will take that on board. You’re absolutely right to think about keeping your gear dry. While our packs are made from highly water-resistant materials, we don’t tape the seams, so using a pack liner is the best way to ensure everything stays dry inside.

For smaller essentials in your hip belt pockets, ziplock bags or other small dry bags work great. Even with fully waterproof gear (if such a thing truly exists!), most thru-hikers still rely on these extra layers of protection—it’s a tried-and-true best practice. Hope that helps, and let us know if you have any other questions!
