The Nanu

The Nanu is our go-everywhere day bag. It's as at home on the commute to work as it is in the mountains.

A stiff sewn-in foam back panel gives great support and shape to the pack at any volume. This means that whether you are just taking your computer and some lunch or you're headed to the beach and have stuffed the bag to bursting, it still carries well (and we think it looks rather good too!).

Whilst weight wasn't our priority when designing this sack, it's still pretty lightweight at around 570g / 20.1 oz.

Needs met.

The Nanu. Our go-everywhere day bag.

All our bags are designed and tested to meet a specific need. Each item is built by hand to our incredibly high standards right here in our Keswick workshop.

Features

G Hook for Top Strap

A webbing top strap secured with a metal G hook instead of a buckle.

Roll Top Zip Pocket

An easily accessed zippered pocket above the shoulder straps that can fit those keep close items. Easily fits a phone, keys, passport or notebook.

Removable Padded Back Panel

Uses shaped 8mm closed cell foam. Can be removed when the pack is empty for a 25g weight reduction.

Snap Fasteners

These fasteners help secure the roll top and ensure it remains closed while rolling down and compressing.

Haul Loop

This simple webbing loop is there so you can pick up and set down your pack without putting excess strain on the shoulder straps. Using this will extend the life of your backpack and keep your shoulder straps in good condition.

S-Shaped Shoulder Straps

Our S-shaped straps are designed to perfectly hug the contours of your body.

Sewn using 11mm foam, durable 210d Robic Extreema face fabric and breathable and soft 3mm thick spacer mesh.

Whistle Sternum Strap

Elasticated, removable and height adjustable, on a long thru hike we recommend keeping it with the whistle facing down to prevent it getting blocked.

Roll Top Closure

The closure has a 15mm vertical side compression. The roll top can also be clipped together at the top (dry bag style) and the side compression clipped around the front of the bag to aid carrying snowshoes or maybe a huge packs of chips etc.

Dyneema Stretch Front Pocket

Made with Dyneema stretch fabric. Can hold 5L, not included in the total volume.

Shoulder Pocket

Each pocket is super stretchy and big enough to hold most smartphones, a day’s worth of snacks or a 700ml water bottle. The elastic is fixed and, owing to its clever design, does not need a tensioner.

Bottom Pocket

Easy-access bottom pocket featuring a large opening on the wearer's right and trash port on the wearers left. The bottom pocket on the Nanu also features a webbing loop for attaching a bike light.

Sewn using Dyneema stretch fabric.

Single Top Strap

A simple adjustable webbing loop to help close the pack or secure a large light item like a roll mat.

FAQ

Is it waterproof?

Our packs are not waterproof.

We use highly waterproof fabrics but we do not tape the seams. Therefore some water may ingress into the pack during periods of extended rain.

Does my torso size affect the volume?

No, In all of our backpacks the height remains the same regardless of torso size.

So a large torso pack will have the exact same volume as a small torso pack.

What is your refund policy?

Any unused off-the-shelf backpack or accessory can be returned to us for a refund, minus the shipping cost, up to 14 days after you take delivery of the goods.

Return shipping is at your own expense. If you wish to start a return, you must contact us first.

What import taxes will I pay?

Atom Packs is registered for VAT in the UK: GB329424790

All prices displayed in GBP (£) on our website will include VAT at 20%. If you are browsing our website from outside of the UK, you may shop in your local currency, in which case the price shown will be exclusive of VAT.

Customers outside the UK are not liable for UK VAT, however, you may be liable for your country’s import duties and tax.

Make sure you understand how much Customs Tax and Import duty you might pay before ordering - check out https://www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/ for an estimate. This is a guide only.

The HS code for backpacks and accessories is 42022290

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your delivery information. If you live in a remote location, we may occasionally need to charge a small extra surplus for shipping. This will be calculated when we ship the pack.

Full details on our shipping page.

What is a Lead Time?

The lead time is the estimated time between placing an order and it leaving our workshop. The lead time for new orders can always be found in the top banner on any page of our website.

If you have already placed an order, you will have received an email with an estimated shipping date, this date is still accurate unless we have emailed you saying otherwise.

Pre-existing orders can ignore any lead time updates to the website, this is relevant for new orders only.

What does recomended load capacity mean?

This is our best guess at what the average person could load into this pack while still being comfortable.

This is entirely dependant on your physiology so must be taken with a pinch of salt. i.e. If you are Chris Hemsworth (Thor... Phwoar!), you may well be able to carry more weight than, say, Gollum from the Lord of the Rings.

In general, we find our limits to be fairly accurate, however, If you find yourself nearing or exceeding the number listed with any regularity, then you should probably look at a more supportive pack from our range.

How long does it take to ship?

Atom Packs is a small team, we quote a 2 week lead time even on in stock items to allow us to make any hip belts or accessories that go with your order, this also allows us to adapt to fluctuating demand.

In general, we aim to ship out far sooner. If you want to know before ordering when your item will ship, please contact us.

Do I need to use a pack liner?

Yes, even though our materials are water resistant, the seams are not taped and thus water may ingress into the pack during extended rain.

Any items that you wish to keep dry must be kept in a waterproof stuff sack or liner.

Can I customise a ready made pack?

No, ready made packs are sold only as pictured, this enables us to hold them in stock and, thus, get them to you faster.

However, If you wish to customise an Atom, you can go to our customiser and build one your way!

A brilliant bag

I’ve owned my Nanu for about 6 months. I use it as a work bag, on short work trips and shopping and out walking. It’s great at all of these things. It’s super light, comfortable, capacious and well made. One big surprise is how great is it is for one bag travel on planes. The stuffable external pockets are great to quickly throw belts etc in when going through security and it sits nicely under the seat in front. Minor gripes: the sternum strap buckle is fiddly and a little more stiffness where the closing strap connects near the top pocket might make using the top pocket a little easier at times. I love the bag and would highly recommend it.

A little gem of a pack!

I bought the Nanu with the idea of maybe using it here and there when I used public transport or my bike to head into work however this didn't exactly go to plan, my better half (Mona) and I are in training for the T.M.B in June and have been hiking 25-30k at the weekends in preparation I have been using my Talon 33 loaded with around 7-9kg, after receiving the Nanu and wearing it I thought hmmm maybe I can use this in place of the Talon so the following weekend I loaded up my Nanu with around 7kg and off we went....all I can say is wow! It's so comfortable I'm impressed so much with this pack I use it every day for something now wether it's walking the dogs, going to the gym, nipping down to the shop for a few groceries it literally goes everywhere with me and I don't even notice it's there, even when I loaded up with 9.7kg one weekend it was still really comfortable over 22k over rough terrain.
This is a fantastic little pack and I'm over the moon with my purchase. Thanks Tom and team keep up the great work👍🏻

Great pack! Nanu X25 in mountain brown

I'll be taking this pack on a two-week trip to England (Midlands and South East) in the summer. It's just barely holds everything I need without stuffing. Have taken it on one winter weekend trip and was great for that as well. Small and light enough that I can empty it out and use it as a day bag when I get where I'm going.

Excellent bag ... but some slight room to refine.

Love the bag. If you are reading this, you should buy it!

Great materials and very well made. I've had a few gear-head friends stop me to have a look and all have been impressed with the bag and the features. Me too. But I do think there are some improvements that could be made in version 2.0.

For reference, this is the 3rd Atom Pack I own + a Roo thing my wife uses daily as a cross-body bag. We love Atom Packs and are 99% thrilled with everything we own.

So the Nanu: First thing - I think the laptop sleeve needs to be deeper in the bag. I understand the thinking of making it ride high in the bag, preventing the laptop from hitting the floor setting the bag down, but it's too high in my opinion and makes the bag impossible to sit upright anywhere without toppling over or sliding down to the floor. It's very top heavy with a laptop (16" Macbook Pro M4) inside. The sleeve itself is well designed but the foam is thinner than other in-bag laptop sleeves I have access too. Wonder if a slightly denser foam, lower in the bag would be an improvement.

Second thing: I also wish the bag were like 15% bigger in the main compartment. It errs on the side of narrow in the width. I use the bag for a laptop, notebook, over-ear headphones and occasionally a 35mm camera in the bottom of the bag with a make-shift form insert. This all but fills the main compartment. It it were slightly bigger, I think I could also use it for multi-day travel as a carryon bag.

I can see the Nanu as a system more than a single bag offering. Maybe a larger central compartment with no inside features but the optional add-on of a snap-in laptop sleeve or padded pod-like compartment for things like cameras or headphones. Lower the base time / price to manufacture the Nanu (I imagine that laptop sleeve is a huge time-suck to make) and then offer it as a premium add-on with a few other optional accessories. Pump them out slightly faster and meet the demand which appears sky high. It's odd, but the Nanu may get more use from your customers than anything else. I use it daily. It gets tossed around in much harder environments than the woods. My Moo has seen 350 trail miles. But I imagine I'll clock a lot more town miles on the Nanu. So I hope you guys are thinking about it as a core offering and potentially an expanded system in the future.

Other than those personal observations, It is a top tier bag. Today in Kentucky it is pouring rain and I had all the confidence in the world this bag would protect my gear.

One other thing for the future user ... don't roll first and then top buckle second like you might a larger backpacking pack. I get great results buckling it first and then rolling it down second and hooking the latch to close the bag. It may have even been designed to function that way.

Nanu X25 in Olive

I was online by 9am the day the pack went on sale, as I knew they would sell out quickly, got mine in Olive and delivery was quick.
My pack is for my Lake District fell walks mainly and general rambling around.
Capacity seems bigger than 25L coupled with the plentiful outer stretch pockets make it very versatile, love the harness pocket for a half litre water
Bottle, two stretch side pockets and an outer stretch pocket for waterproofs etc.
The zipped pocket is great for quick access to snacks with plenty of room for keys, wallet and other things, also the almost hidden stash pocket on the pack underside, I keep a bin bag in there to pick up the sometimes inevitable litter some people seem to leave in beautiful places !

I recommend this versatile and very comfortable pack.

Photos are from Ross’s Camp and a WW2 Pill box, both in the Lake District
