I spent my late teens into my mid twenties in the military, since leaving the Army I guess I’ve found comfort in covering long distances on foot and sleeping under a tarp. It’s a familiarity, a constant. The simplicity of having everything on my back to keep me alive, keep me moving forward. As my Ultralight journey has unfolded I’ve realised, to pack minimally is to relieve yourself not only of weight, but the burdens of everyday life.
My favourite trail has to be the End to End (Lands End to John O'Groats). I’ve hiked in the States, Europe, but man there’s nothing better than rolling out of a bush into a 400 year old village at 5am on a sunny summer's morning.
What's your go-to Atom Pack?
I use the Pulse primarily, it’s a 50L and it’s in my mind the most versatile, do it all pack. I can hike with a 5 day resupply in the States, or take the hip belt/frame away and it’s good to go for day hikes & UK trails with resupplies every couple of days.

Best tip for the trail?
It’s gotta be trail runners! I love a big heavy boot, but trail runners got me though deserts and snow in Arizona. Lightweight & no blisters. Winner!
Any words of wisdom for aspiring thru hikers?
If I can give one piece of advice to anyone thinking of thru hiking it would be to take it from resupply to resupply. It breaks it down into manageable chunks... and you’ve got food to focus on!

What's the plan for 2026?!
It looks like some fast paced endurance adventures! Super excited to share soon! As well as sharing more of my knowledge on my ultralight backpacking experiences & gear.
